Attack

I've been lucky enough to find a great friend here in South Padre Island who shares my love of scrapping and card making.  We've been able to scrap at her home several times and its great fun as we each get to try out each others tools.  On this layout, she had a great corner punch that allowed me to create these wonderful shapes for this layout.

ATTACK - October 31, 2010 - Haines, Alaska JOURNALING: A pair of Bald Eagles battle for a left over salmon on the river.PHOTOS: Bald Eagle images by Shetzers Photography SUPPLIES USED: K&Company Julianne patterned paper and mats, Kraft cardstock, Ranger Tim Holtz Distress ink (Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap, Weathered Wood), Judikins Treasure cube stamp, Inkadinkado Gem Stone Flowers stamp, K&Company borders (tickets), Creative Cafe Just Write stamp, Font is CK Leisurely, Sketch by PageMaps2 (page 39), Bazzill Basics Just the EdgeTECHNIQUE TIP: I wanted to add to the vintage feel of this layout and using a plain white border strip just did not work. I took the normal Bazzill Basics Just the Edge border strip and stamped it with the Judikins Treasure cube stamp to give it the appearance of old handwriting. Using the weathered wood ink by Tim Holtz as the main inking accent on the page contributes to the softness and tone of the page.

the CHALLENGE

For some reason, my husband says that this is one of his favorite pages. I love using kraft paper and the BasicGrey collection really coordinates well with it.

TECHNIQUE TIP:  I wanted to vary my flowers a bit so I choose a multitude of centers for them.  I used my Diamond Glaze to adhere a cluster of small glass beads in two, I used some buttons (various types) on several and then I used my favorite Stickles (I'm a glitter junkie) in several.  Overall, with the variations of flower petals with various patterned paper and my centers, I think the flowers provide a nice accent to the wonderful photos that my husband took.

Cuddly Couple

For some reason, I really struggled with scrapping these two photos of an eagle pair in a tree.  It took me several attempts to be able to finally come up with a design that I liked.

I did not have the perfect green for these flowers so I started out with some white flowers and then used my glimmer mist (olive vine color) to create some neat variations in color on the flowers. Once they were dry, I stamped them with my Stampin Up Dot Dot Dot stamp in brown to help give them some definition. I then cut one flower in half and adhered to the top and beneath my journaling tag. Easy perfectly matched flowers!!

Soaring

I noticed that all my Bald Eagle layouts were done with either natural colors or colors from the images (green, yellow, brown) and I thought that I needed a couple of patriotic pages to showcase our national bird. Below is the first of the layouts that I've done with a bit bolder colors.

Since the colors were so powerful and the meaning they convey is clear, a few simple star embellishments and some stitched flourishes added to the patriotic mood.

Look Out Below

I've been working feverishly to finish up my Bald Eagle scrapbook by the time we leave here in two weeks. It's been great fun, but I will be glad to get back to some different types of layouts and be able to start on our trip through Alaska last summer.  The Bald Eagle scrapbook will contain 28 layouts.

Two of them started out being off white so I used my stamps and inks to colorize them and add more texture to the layout. Another one started out to be off white and I decided that a pale blue would give a bit more seperation to the zig zag border so I sponged some of the Tim Holtz weathered wood ink onto it to recolor it. The bluish textured flowers also started off in plain off white and with my stamps, I blended them in with the theme of the layout.

Hanging Out

So I bought these wonderful transparency frames quite some time ago (like over a year) and I have had a hard time using them because they are so large.  Now I've come up with a few ideas for them such as mounting them on cardstock to create a frame in the background but this is actually the first time I have used one directly over a photo.  Since I'm scrapping with such large photos for the Bald Eagle album, I thought they would be perfect and I must say, that I like the look they created below.  What a great way to frame your photos.

The Scout

One of the hardest parts of traveling all over the US is that I miss my wonderful scrapbooking friends at home.  I was lucky enough to meet a fellow scrapbooker and card maker here on SPI so we spent the other day learning new things from each other and enjoying a great scrapping day!!!  Below is a layout that I completed on Sunday.  Its always so much fun to get together to scrapbook as you get to try out new stuff.  I really enjoyed picking her brain on stamping and using a lot of products from Stampin Up.

Tools of Prey

I finished my first layout for my new design team for LisaJane at FileKutz.  I love the svg cuts that she creates and when I saw this wonderful leaf background, I knew it had an eagle layout in it!!  Not only did I get this wonderful background, but I also now have some wonderful leaf and vine cutouts to use on another layout (stay tuned).  Notice the adorable little vines in the corners, they are the "leftovers" from the cut.  How great to be able to create multiple layouts from one cut file.

Morning Flight

Still working on all those wonderful Bald Eagle photos that Matt took last year.  We are so looking forward to going back up there in November to take more photos and enjoy teaching others during our photography workshop there.

MORNING FLIGHT - October 22, 2010 - Haines, Alaska
JOURNALING: This image is my favorite of all the Bald Eagle photos taken in Haines, Alaska. What a beautiful morning flight.

SUPPLIES USED: K&Company Alleghany Plum and Poppy Seed Shimmer patterned paper, Sketch by Sketchy Thursday's for April GDT, American Crafts stamp markers & precision pen, Hero Arts Travel Frames stamp, EK Success Corner Rounder, Hampton Art Borders stamp, Studio G Chalk ink, Ranger's Liquid Pearls, Ranger Crackle Accents, JudiKins Diamond Glaze, Font - Brush Script MT

TECHNIQUES:  A couple of unique techniques on this layout.  I used Studio G's white chalk ink to stamp the border under the photography and then embellished the stamp dots by using Ranger's Liquid Pearls to give some dimension to the stamp.  I also tried the American Crafts stamp markers for the first time and created a dual tone stamp for my journaling (brown & blue).

Eagle Eye

I wanted to share the newest layout that I completed showcasing some more wonderful photos of our photography trip last year to Haines, Alaska.  While we captured some wonderful images of the Bald Eagle, I can't even begin to explain how amazing it was to be surrounded by thousands (Yes, Thousands) of chattering bald eagles.

This page means a lot to me as it features the image that my dad picked out as his favorite.  It now graces his walls in a very large print.

EAGLE EYE - October 13, 2010 - Haines, Alaska

JOURNALING:  When I asked my Dad what his favorite Bald Eagle photo was, he selected this Eagle crying out.

The layout was based on this week's sketch over at Sketch Inspiration.  Its a great site with weekly sketches to challenge our creativity.  I'm not a big circle layout fan, so this one definitely challenged me!  Here is the original sketch.

Traveling through Moab, Utah

I wanted to share a few scrapbook layouts from our travels through the beautiful landscape of Moab, Utah last May.  We were lucky enough to spend 2 weeks in the Moab area so we had plenty of time to explore and take photos of Dead Horse State Park, Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park.

For some wonderful Utah landscape photographs, please check out our Gallery at Shetzers Photography.

I found another great site for sketches, Sketchy Thursdays.  I love using them as inspiration to get the creativity going.  This was my first time for playing along with their weekly sketch challenge and I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of their favorites!!!  Check out all the wonderful pages created by this one little sketch HERE.

Of course the photography is from my wonderful hubby Matt @ Shetzers Photography.  For more wonderful Bald Eagle images, check out his gallery here.

Here is the sketch:
